On October 31, the Cudahy High School Band had the opportunity to work with Jim Piela, a saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator based in New York City. He holds a graduate degree in Jazz Performance from NYU and hails from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin! Mr. Peila constantly walks the tightrope between order and chaos in his exploration of what it means to be a jazz musician. 🎷🎼 Mr. Peila worked with students on musicianship, what eight minutes of daily practice could do for our program, and what it is like to be a jazz musician living in New York City today. He gave students insight on how to prepare for their upcoming winter concert on Thursday, December 5th. Students enjoyed working with Mr. Piela and thought his knowledge was valuable as we move forward in our studies.

November is Homelessness Awareness Month and National Runaway Prevention Month. Homelessness affects thousands of people including children and families. During the 2022-23 school year in Wisconsin, over 18,000 students experienced homelessness. Everyone deserves a safe permanent place to call home. If you or someone you know may be experiencing homelessness, please reach out to your child's school. Staff may be able to provide assistance and resources. You can also find more information on our website, https://www.cudahysd.org/page/homeless-children-and-youth
